Books for Africa Celebrates Mandela Day of Service

Minnesota nonprofit Books for Africa celebrated former South Africa president Nelson Mandela's 100th birthday Wednesday.

The nonprofit, which has provided 41 million books to kids in 54 African countries in the last 30 years, hosted a volunteer event that coincides with Mandela Day of Service.

Members of the Minnesota Orchestra played music for volunteers as they worked. They will also perform in South Africa as part of Books for Africa's 30th anniversary celebration.
