Sheriff: Body found in Mississippi River near Franklin Avenue Bridge

Updated: February 23, 2020 10:26 PM

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office has confirmed to KSTP that a body was discovered in the Mississippi River on Sunday.

Around 12:15 p.m., Minneapolis emergency personnel notified the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office that a body had been found in the river near the Franklin Avenue Bridge.

Sheriff's Water Patrol personnel took an airboat to the scene and worked with responders from the Minneapolis Fire Department to recover the body, the sheriff's office said.

“The ice and river conditions made this an especially difficult recovery,” Sheriff Dave Hutchinson said in a statement. “Our water patrol deputies have the equipment they need, but it is still a quite challenging scene.”

There is no other information at this time.
