The medical examiner is working to identify a body found in the midst of a house fire in Menahga Wednesday.

According to the Menahga Police Department, authorities received a 911 call reporting a house fire on the 600 block of SE Second Street at about 10:30 p.m.


Menahga and Sebeka firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, which police said took about three hours.

As crews battled the fire, authorities found an individual inside the home, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was underway Thursday; identification has been withheld pending the notification of family.

Officials with the Wadena County Sheriff's Office, Menahga First Responders, Tri-County Ambulance, State Fire Marshal, Minnesota Power, and Minnesota Energy Resources assisted at the scene.

The incident is under investigation.
