The weather forecast calls for a hot Fourth of July, and lakes and rivers will be hot spots all over the state Wednesday for staying cool.
On Tuesday, the Hennepin County Water Patrol reminded boaters to stay safe before people hit the water.
In addition to the regular boating safety reminders, it is also important to bring plenty of water and plan for the heat.
The Sheriff also stressed the importance of life jackets. There must be one on board for every person, and children under 10 must wear a life jacket at all times. Even for the families who are swimming in a pool or lake, water patrol said life jackets for kids are still a good idea.
While out on the water, deputies will also be looking for boaters who are speeding and using alcohol while operating the boat.
