Belle Plaine police say a gas line was cut on the 100 block of South Meridian Street in the city's downtown around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

In a post to the messenger service Nixle, police said crews were working overnight to remedy the situation.


Anyone within 300 feet of the leak was being evacuated and residents were advised to stay out of the area.
