Police responded to the Prairie Rose apartment complex on the outskirts of Red Lake Falls Wednesday after a woman caring for the girl reported the baby was not breathing.

The girl was airlifted to Sanford Hospital in Fargo, where she was placed on life support and later died.

The baby's mother is in jail and a relative has been caring for her since she was born, according to WDAZ.

Red Lake County Sheriff Mitch Bernstein has asked the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to assist with the death investigation.

No one has been arrested in connection with the baby's death.
