Authorities identify body found by hunter in wooded area near Mankato

The man found dead by a hunter near Mankato last week has been identified.

The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office identified the body as that of 23-year-old Shane Zephier, of Minneapolis.


Zephier was arrested by Lake Crystal police for shoplifting at a local convenience store on Aug. 27, the sheriff's office said. He was released from jail the same day and was last seen walking alone just after 3 p.m.

Hunter finds body in wooded area of rural Mankato

Deputies were called to the area northeast of Highway 83 on Oct. 10 after a hunter reported finding a body in woods northeast of Highway 83.

The investigation into his death remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office at 507-304-4863.
