Authorities rescue 2 horses stuck in Isanti County swamp

Two horses that were stuck in a swamp in Isanti County were rescued Wednesday evening.

Isanti Fire District said crews were dispatched by the Isanti County Sheriff's Office shortly before 6 p.m. on a report of stuck horses at Wayside Prairie Park in rural Bradford Township.

Officials said, because of the remote area where it occurred, crews had to improvise and use wide straps to get under the horses and help pull them to more solid ground. Fortunately, both horses and their owners were removed from the swamp and were able to walk back to solid ground under their own power.

Isanti Fire said it took great teamwork from Isanti County Safety and Rescue and other good neighbors to assure the positive outcome.

However, the rescue crew then needed some help of its own.

"Now we may need to request some help with ideas of how to get the swamp smell out of our boots?" the department said on social media.
