No plans this weekend? Need to get out of the house? Here is a look at what is going on in the Twin Cities this weekend.

Skiing and Snowboarding in the Metro


Hit the hill this weekend as many metro ski and snowboarding areas are opening for the season. According to their websites, both Hyland Hills Ski Area and Afton Alps open Friday. Buck Hill opened this past Monday. 

Midwest Mountaineering Outdoor Adventure Expo

Outdoor enthusiasts may want to skip the trail and head over to Cedar-Riverside this weekend. Friday through Sunday, Midwest Mountaineering will hold its fall Outdoor Adventure Expo. The event will host more than 60 exhibitors and 85 presentations on topics including kayaking, lightweight backpacking, adventure travel and mountaineering.

Holiday Junk Jaunt

Find a unique holiday gift in one of the independently owned shops along Highway 61 during the Holiday Junk Jaunt. During the Holiday Junk Jaunt, shoppers can locate vintage, recycled and repurposed goods at shops in White Bear Lake and Forest Lake.

Hard Water Ice Fishing Expo

Get ready for ice fishing over the weekend during the Hard Water Ice Fishing Expo. The event hosts all the biggest brands in the sport, showing off the latest gear and technology.

Place: National Sports Center, Blaine

Minneapolis College of Art and Design Art Sale 

Find a unique piece of art during the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Art Sale. The annual event offers artwork made by students and recent grads of the school.

In Brewery News ...

Celebrate the anniversary of two Twin Cities breweries. On Friday, Able Seedhouse & Brewery will celebrate its anniversary by offering some of its favorite beers that are out of rotation. Tickets for all you can eat oysters are also available. On Saturday, Insight Brewing will celebrate four years of crafting brews. Both events include food and live music.

Taste of Columbia Heights

Learn about the culinary offerings of one Twin Cities suburb during Taste of Columbia Heights. On Friday, seven different Columbia Heights restaurants will showcase their food at Murzyn Hall. Face-painting and free wine samples will also be available during the event.

Fall Harvest Family Day

Celebrate community Saturday during the Fall Harvest Family Day in Roseville. The event will include arts and crafts, carnival games, music and refreshments. Pre-registration is required.

Place: Cedarholm Community Center, Roseville

Mill City Indoor Winter Market

Find locally grown produce, as well as other food items during the Mill City Farmers Market indoor winter market. The market hosts more than 40 local farmers, food makers and artists.

Northeast Winter Market

Summer may be long gone, but you can still enjoy the atmosphere of a farmer's market. Pick up fresh produce and other foods during the Northeast Winter Market. The market also includes music on vinyl spun by local DJs, kids' activities and a bar.

Linden Hills Holiday Market

See what more than 60 local craftspeople and food producers are up to during the Linden Hills Holiday Market. The weekly market offers an opportunity to pick up that perfect holiday gift and food.
