Enjoy Winter Recreation

Get out and enjoy recreational winter sports around the metro. Looking to speed downhill on skis or a snowboard? Hyland Hills, Afton Alps and Buck Hill may just be the place to go. 


Mall of America Skate the Star 

Looking to lace up your ice skates over the weekend? Head over to the Mall of America to try out the Skate the Star ice rink. The 12,000-square-foot ice rink is a new attraction to the Mall of America. All proceeds from the rink will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Twin Cities.

Date: Open daily through Jan. 27

Place: Mall of America, Bloomington


Excelsior Ice Castles 

Explore the frozen wonder of the Excelsior Ice Castles over the weekend. According to the organization that builds the creations, the Excelsior exhibit is one of six in the country. The castles include lit sculptures, frozen thrones, slides and more. 

Date: Daily with the exception of Tuesday

2019 North American Pond Hockey Tournament 

See the top pond hockey teams battle it out on the ice of Lake Minnetonka during the 2019 North American Pond Hockey Tournament. Other events include a bean bag tournament, a 5K and live entertainment.

Place: Mall of America, Bloomington


African Adventure Weekend at Como Park Zoo

Learn about the continent of Africa over the weekend during African Adventure Weekend at Como Park Zoo. Activities include a scavenger hunt, crafts, games storytime, zookeeper talks and more. 

Date: Saturday - Monday

Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Place:  Como Park Zoo & Conservatory, St. Paul


Dive in Movie 

When it comes to best pun-named events, this one wins. Enjoy a movie Friday night at the Shoreview Community Center's Tropics Indoor Waterpark

Date: Friday

Time: 7 to 9:45 p.m.

Place: Shoreview Community Center, Shoreview 


Twin Cities Record Show

Find that LP or 45 you've been searching for during the Twin Cities Records Show. And the fun doesn't just stop at records, vendors will also be selling CDs and music memorabilia. Attendees can also enjoy the hunt for that special record while enjoying one of the many brews from Able Seedhouse and Brewery. 

Date: Saturday

Time: Noon to 4 p.m.

Place: Able Seedhosue and Brewery


St. Cloud Craft Beer Tour

Craft beer fans unite! Attendees of the St. Cloud Craft Beer Tour have the opportunity to enjoy four hours of sampling craft beer, hard cider and other adult beverages. Following the event, a number of breweries taking part in the craft beer tour will provide tap takeovers and downtown St. Cloud bars.

Northeast Winter Market

Summer may be long gone, but you can still enjoy the atmosphere of a farmer's market. Pick up fresh produce and other foods during the Northeast Winter Market. The market also includes music on vinyl spun by local DJs, kids' activities and a bar.

Charlie Parr Residency at the Turf Club 

Take in the sounds and stories of northern Minnesota during Charlie Parr's residency at the Turf Club. Known for his resonator guitar, the Duluth musician will perform at the Turf Club every Sunday during the month of January.

Time: 7 p.m.

Place: Turf Club, St. Paul
