Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at the Minnesota Zoo

Get an idea for your next jack-o-lantern during the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at the Minnesota Zoo. The event displays over 5,000 illuminated pumpkins. 

Date: Daily through Oct. 31

Time: 7 to 11 p.m.

Place: Minnesota Zoo, Apple Valley 


Twin Cities Film Festival

It's a cinephile's paradise. Over the weekend and through Oct. 28, Minnesota movie lovers can take in a large number of independent films during the Twin Cities Film Festival.  Along with film screening, participants can attend panels and educational forums.

Date: Through Oct. 28

Place: Showplace ICON Theatre, St. Louis Park


10,000 Laughs Comedy Festival

In need of a laugh? You're in luck. Minnesota's largest comedy festival, the 10,000 Laughs Comedy Festival, will be providing chuckles throughout the weekend. Festival organizers tout this year's festival as the biggest event yet. This year's headliners include Rory Scovel, Taylor Tomlison, Rhea Butcher and more. The festival venues are located throughout the Twin Cities. 

Date: Thursday - Saturday

Place: Various locations


Sever's Fall Festival 

Celebrate the fact the fall season is in full swing at Sever's Fall Festival. The festival offers a pumpkin patch, corn maze and live performances. According to the event's website, the event is the Midwest's original fall festival. The festival is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 28.

Date: Friday - Sunday through Oct. 28

Place: Shakopee


Twin Cities Harvest Festival and Maze 

Experience the state's largest corn maze at the Twin Cities Harvest Festival and Maze. This year, the maze celebrates the Minnesota Timberwolves' 30th season. Along with the maze, families can enjoy a corn pit, straw bale maze, hayride, a petting zoo and more. 

Date: Saturday and Sunday, weekends through Oct. 28.

BareBones Puppets' 25th Halloween Extravaganza

Take in the work of more than 250 artists, puppeteers, musicians and performers during the BareBones Puppets Halloween Extravaganza. Each year, the performing arts organization hosts its Halloween show for Minnesotans of all ages. After the performances, those in attendance can enjoy food, beverages and live music. 

Date: Saturday and Sunday

Time: 7 p.m.

Place: Hidden Falls Regional Park, St. Paul


Minneapolis Ghost Walk

Familiar with Minneapolis urban legends? Find out the truth of those tales during the Minneapolis Ghost Walk. During the event, attendees can enjoy a mile-and-a-half walk that includes legends, ghost stories and mysteries of Minneapolis. 

Date: Friday

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Place: Mill Ruins Park, Minneapolis 


Nordeast Big River Brew Fest

Fancy yourself as a beer connoisseur? Expand your beer tastes over the weekend at the Nordeast Big River Brew Fest. Attendees will have the opportunity to try brews from local and national brewing companies. All proceeds from the event benefit East Side Neighborhood Services.

Date: Saturday

Time: 1 to 4 p.m.

Place: Eastside Neighborhood Services, Minneapolis


La Doña Cervecería Taproom Grand Opening

Celebrate the opening of yet another Twin Cities taproom during La Doña Cervecería's grand opening. The "for-benefit" taproom celebrates the "vibrancy, breadth and depth of Latino and Minnesotan culture." The grand opening's events include onsite food trucks, cigar rolling demonstrations, televised soccer matches and more.

Time: 9 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Place: La Doña Cervecería, Minneapolis


Runnin' Down a Dream - A Birthday Tribute to Tom Petty

Those waiting for this event might find it to be the hardest part. On Saturday, hear a number of Minnesota-based bands take their turn at the music of American rock icon Tom Petty during the Runnin' Down a Dream Birthday Tribute to Tom Petty. Performers include Kind Country, Frogleg and White Iron Band.

Time: 8 p.m.

Place: Varsity Theater, Minneapolis 


Smoke Out Festival

Have a hankering for some smoked meat? Head over to the Handsome Hog, where Iron Chef America winner Justin Sutherland will be serving up a number of smoked goods during the Smoke Out Festival. And of course, to accompany the smoked food is local beer provided by Pryes Brewing Company.

Date: Sunday

Time: Noon to 5 p.m.

Place: Handsome Hog, St. Paul
