No plans this weekend? Need to get out of the house? Here is a look at what is going on in the Twin Cities this weekend:


St. Paul Winter Carnival

The 133rd Saint Paul Winter Carnival is in full swing and runs through Sunday. Most events will take place downtown at Kellogg Mall Park while other sites include the Landmark Center in St. Paul and the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Some events over the weekend have been postponed due to weather conditions. Check out the KSTP Winter Carnival Guide to help you plan. 


Enjoy Winter Recreation 

Get out and enjoy recreational winter sports around the metro. Looking to speed downhill on skis or a snowboard? Hyland Hills, Afton Alps and Buck Hill may just be the place to go. Speeding downhill not your thing? Try out cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Minnesotans can rent equipment for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing through Three Rivers Park District, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and St. Paul parks and recreation


Excelsior Ice Castles 

Explore the frozen wonder of the Excelsior Ice Castles over the weekend. According to the organization that builds the creations, the Excelsior exhibit is one of six in the country. The castles include lit sculptures, frozen thrones, slides and more. 

Date: Daily with the exception of Tuesday

City of the Lakes Loppet 

Enjoy cross country skiing and other cold weather activities during the City of the Lakes Loppet. Activities include cross country skiing, skijoring, fat tire bike riding and more. Saturday includes a luminary loppet, or a candlelight ski/walk. 

Date: Thursday - Sunday

Minneapolis Motorcycle Show

Motorcycle enthusiasts unite! According to its organizers, the Progressive Motorcycle Show is the world's largest motorcycle show tour. The event includes exhibits from more than 800 brands from the world of motorsports. Attendees will be able to purchase parts, gear and accessories and speak with brand representatives. 

Date: Friday - Sunday

Place: 3 to 6 p.m.

Place: Minneapolis Convention Center, Minneapolis 


Hudson Hot Air Affair 

Head over to Hudson, Wisconsin to see hot air balloons take flight during the Hudson Hot Air Affair. Organizers dubbed the event "the premier winter ballooning event and winter festival." Other activities include a torchlight parade, geocaching, craft fair, smoosh boarding, a 5K fun run, bingo and more.

First Saturday at the Walker

Enjoy the Walker Art Center for free on Saturday during the museum's First Saturday series. The event includes performances, games, art-making and kids' films for families.

Place: Walker Art Center, Minneapolis
