Thirty cats, several horses and two dogs all died in a barn fire in Monticello Township early New Year's Eve.

In a post to its Facebook page, the Wright County Sheriff's Department reported deputies responded to the blaze on the 1800 block of 85th Street Northeast around 5:50 a.m. Sunday. The homeowner had awakened to the sound of loud popping noises coming from the barn. They then looked outside and noticed the fire.
