An 83-year-old man who lost his way while hunting on the West Fork of the Chippewa River in Wisconsin's Sawyer County was found safely Saturday night.

The Sawyer County Sheriff's Office said it received a call around 9:28 p.m. Saturday reporting the man had not returned home after being out hunting.

Sheriff's deputies, Sawyer County Search and Rescue, Round Lake Fire Department, Hayward Fire Department and Air Boat, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Sawyer County EMTs and Paramedic all responded to the area.

An air boat was launched and began a water search in the area. The man's vehicle was found parked and unoccupied not far from a staging area at the Round Lake Fire Department on Pine Point Road. A ground search was undertaken and voice contact was made with the man, who was located soon after.

The release states the man said he had gotten turned around and became lost in the dark. He was assessed by an ambulance crew, but was found to be in good condition.

He was allowed to drive himself to the staging area.
