A Pine River man died from a medical episode while trying to free his ATV from being stuck in Crow Wing County.

According to a release from the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a medical situation on a remote trail in the Stewart Lake area in Timothy Township at approximately 5:37 p.m Wednesday. The caller told authorities he was assisting a man, identified as David Willard Zvorak, 71, in attempting to get his ATV unstuck. While doing so, Zvorak appeared to have suffered a medical episode, falling to the ground, unconscious.

Emergency reponders had a difficult time locating Zvorak as several of them became stuck on the trails themselves, according to the release. A Minnesota DNR officer was the first to locate Zvorak and attempted life-saving efforts. However, Zvorak was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.

"This was a difficult rescue situation due to the very remote area and the conditions of the trails," said Sheriff Scott Goddard, per the release. "I want to thank all agencies and personnel involved for assisting on the tragic event."

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Ideal Fire Department, North Ambulance, Minnesota DNR and the Crow Wing County Drone team.
