5 INVESTIGATES: Billion dollar threat

May 16, 2019 06:27 AM

It's a behind-the-scenes look at the fight to protect a billion-dollar slice of Minnesota's economy.

Thursday at 10 p.m. on 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, Investigative Reporter Eric Rasmussen shares why the state's farmers say all Minnesotans could feel the impact if a foreign disease that's deadly to pigs spreads to the United States.

African swine fever is not a threat to humans. However, since Minnesota is the second-largest pork producer in the nation, just one case of the disease among pigs in the state would be devastating.

The disease has reportedly already decimated the pork industry in China and recently, the 5 INVESTIGATES team received extraordinary access to find out what's being done to stop the disease from infecting pigs in Minnesota.

Watch the full report at 10 p.m Thursday on 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.
