One person is dead after a crash just south of the City of Bethel Friday evening.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened near the intersection of 229th Avenue NW and University Avenue at about 6:17 p.m. in Oak Grove.

According to the sheriff's office, a 1995 Chevrolet pickup left the road and came to rest in a swampy area. Two passengers were able to free themselves and escape, but the driver, a 23-year-old St. Paul man, had to be extricated from the truck by first responders.

Authorities said the driver later died.

One passenger was treated at the scene and released, and the other was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff's office said the driver's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation.
