Fishing Opener Anglers: Prepare for Cool Weather, Detours

Many Minnesotans are preparing to cast their lines this weekend for the 2018 fishing opener.

Anglers are allowed on state lakes and rivers starting at midnight Friday.

KSTP Chief Morning Meteorologist Ken Barlow said temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-50s Friday and there is a chance of scattered showers.

Meanwhile, KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith said weekend projects might make the drive to various lakes and rivers more difficult.

Additionally, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has asked those participating in this year's fishing opener to purchase a fishing license, understand regulations and track ice-out conditions ahead of going out and to report fish kills during the opener.
