2017 State Fair Sets Attendance Record

The number is out, and it's a record.

The Minnesota State Fair on Tuesday said a record 1,997,320 people attended the Great Minnesota Get-Together during its 12-day run in 2017.

That figure breaks the previous record of 1,943,719, set in 2016, by a number of people about the size of the population of Minnetonka.

Among the 12 days of the fair, three set attendance records:

  • Monday, Aug. 28 – 144,504
  • Friday, Sept. 1 – 187,066
  • Sunday, Sept. 3 –242,759

Among other highlights compiled by fair staff in a release Tuesday:

The CHS Miracle of Birth Center welcomed 145 newborn animals, including 113 piglets, 12 calves and 20 lambs.

Total grandstand attendance was 120,383, which fair officials said was also a record. 

The 4-H Purple Ribbon Auction of Saturday, Aug. 26, set 11 new record prices and raised more than $655,000 to benefit 4-H programs.
