2 charged in connection to Bloomington home invasion

Charges have been filed against two men in connection to a home invasion in Bloomington.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office says 45-year-old Robert Gabrio, of Aitkin, is charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery and threats of violence while 56-year-old Danny Denzer, of Mounds View, is charged with first-degree burglary.

A woman who lives in the 2800 block of 101st Street West was talking on the phone with her sister when she saw a vehicle back into her driveway just after 7 p.m. Sunday, according to a criminal complaint. Gabrio and Denzer then got out of the vehicle and forced their way into the home.

Officers were dispatched by 7:25 p.m. and Denzer was arrested. At that time, officers heard a woman scream from the basement and a man said, "give me the money." The complaint states police found Gabrio holding a knife near the woman. He was subdued and arrested.

The woman told police Gabrio grabbed her by the throat, threw her over a couch and put her in a headlock before dragging her to the basement and putting a knife to her throat. He then allegedly told her to open the safe or he’d kill her and her husband, the complaint states.

The woman suffered a cut on one of her ears and several bumps on the head but wasn’t seriously injured, the attorney’s office said.

Gabrio and Denzer are expected to appear in court for the first time on Wednesday.
