2 arrested in connection to fatal West St. Paul shooting; public help requested

Police have booked two people into jail in connection to a fatal shooting Wednesday night in West St. Paul, but they’re still searching for the people directly responsible for shooting the victim.

Shots were reportedly fired just before 9 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson County Park, police said.

West St. Paul Police said 22-year-old Cartrell Nay-Shawn Turner, of Maplewood, and 20-year-old Asiani Ra-chelle Nelson, of Champlin, were booked on probable cause possession of a pistol without a permit and aiding an offender, respectively. However, officers are still trying to find the person who actually shot the man who was killed.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help to find the person responsible, noting that the shooting took place during a large gathering. Police said many of the people at the park fled and many of those who remained haven’t cooperated with investigators.

Anyone who was present at the time of the shooting or who has information that could help police is asked to call police at 651-552-4200.

The victim killed in the shooting hasn’t yet been publicly identified.
