One person died and another was injured after a head-on crash in Rusk County, Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin State Patrol said authorities from multiple departments responded to a crash on U.S. Highway 8 at Cranberry Lake Road at about 7:52 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the State Patrol, a Chevrolet Tahoe was headed west on Highway 8 when the driver lost control and collided with a Dodge Ram truck traveling eastbound.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 28-year-old Richard J. Smith, from Bruce, Wisconsin, suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the Dodge, 64-year-old Laura J. Peterson, from Chetek, Wisconsin, was transported to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation, but authorities said icy roads may have been a contributing factor in the crash. The identities of the drivers have yet to be released.
