Police say one man is in custody in connection to an overnight shooting in St. Paul.

The St. Paul Police Department said officers were called at about 1:35 a.m. Friday to Marshall Avenue and Louis Street on the report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a 27-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to both of his legs. The man told police he was fighting with another man and attempted to reach for his gun when he accidentally shot himself.

He told police he was not sure if he shot the other man.

A short time later, first responders were called to the area of University Avenue and Park Street on the report of a second shooting victim.

The victim, a 22-year-old man, was taken to Regions Hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm.

The victim told police he dropped a female friend off at John Ireland Boulevard and Marshall Avenue. He said he was then approached by a man who had a revolver. After an altercation, the victim realized he was shot in the arm.

A witness at the scene said the man who was shot in both legs was her ex-boyfriend and that she had received threatening phone calls and messages from him. She said her friend dropped her off in the area of her home when she saw her ex-boyfriend run at her friend with a firearm.

The man who was shot in the legs is in custody at Regions Hospital.
