1 dead, 6 injured after collision in Kanabec County

One person is dead and six others are injured after a Toyota Camry struck a group of motorcyclists in Brunswick Township in Kanabec County at around 8:30 a.m. Saturday. 

The accident occurred after the Camry that was traveling northbound on Mahogany Street failed to yield at the intersection and struck two Harley Davidson motorcycles that were traveling westbound on Highway 70. The collision caused a third motorcycle to go off the road, according to the Minnesota State Patrol report.


The driver of one of the Harley Davidson motorcycles, a 42-year old man from Java, South Dakota, died. His passenger, identified as Charisse Mae Janke, 40n of Java, South Dakota, suffered life-threatening injuries and is being treated at Hennepin County Medical Center. The identity of the driver was expected to be released at a later time.

The driver of the second Harley Davidson motorcycle, identified as Bruce Alan Johnson, 48, of Brahm, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, while his passenger, identified as Tina Marie Johnson, 46, of Brahm, suffered life-threatening injuries. The pair were transported to North Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the motorcycle that left the roadway suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. He was identified as Ryan Paul Ristown, 21, of Coon Rapids.

Two passengers in the Camry suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. They were identified as Thu Lu, 34, and Saw Si Si, 26, both of St. Paul.

The driver of the Camry, identified as Par Klaw, 30, of St. Paul, was uninjured.

The crash is under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol, Brainerd District.
