1 dead, 1 injured in single-vehicle crash

A woman is dead and another woman is injured after a single-vehicle crash in Minneapolis Saturday morning.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, at 2:49 a.m., officers responded to the report of a single-vehicle crash, with injuries, at Lowry Street Northeast and Grand Street Northeast.

Once officers arrived, they located a vehicle that had struck a pole. Two occupants were trapped in the vehicle. The victims were extricated with assistance from Minneapolis Fire Department.

The passenger, a woman believed to be in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The driver, also a woman believed to be in her 20s, was transported to an area hospital by EMS, said police.

Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Lowry when it lost control, striking the pole.

Police said alcohol and/or drugs and speed appear to be contributing factors in this crash.
