John Elder, a spokesman with the department, said officers arrived on scene and provided aid to three individuals that were injured. One was injured critically. All three were transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance.

Investigators believe the collision occurred in the intersection as the passenger car was eastbound on Plymouth Avenue and the SUV traveled southbound on Lyndale Avenue. The car then struck a large electrical box, cutting of power service to some of the area.

The Minneapolis Police Department's Traffic Unit reconstructed the scene. Speed, failure to yield, and alcohol may have been contributing factors in the crash.

Excel Energy expects to have power fully restored by morning.
