With a heat wave hitting the Twin Cities through Wednesday, Xcel Energy is offering advice for customers to stay comfortable but also keep their energy bills low.

As many people work from home, air conditioning often runs all day, which can mean higher electricity bills.

Xcel Energy states some basic advice to lower bills includes installing a programmable thermostat to raise the temperature when people aren't at home, adding ceiling fans to rooms and leaving doors open for rooms with poor air circulation.

Closing drapes and blinds can also keep rooms cooler.

Those who are looking for a place to stay cool in the coming days can find information here.
