Q&A: Woodbury’s Adam Mazur pumped to get drafted 53rd overall by San Diego

Former Woodbury high school and Iowa pitcher Adam Mazur was selected Sunday night 53rd overall by the San Diego Padres. The Big Ten Pitcher of the Year is the highest Iowa player selected in 32 years.

Mazur transferred to Iowa after starting his collegiate career at South Dakota State.

We caught up with Mazur, via Zoom, on Monday to relive the excitement in getting selected.

Mazur started 15 games for Iowa this year and posted a 7-3 record. He threw 93 2/3 innings this past season and posted an ERA of 3.08 and a WHIP of just .97. Mazur was named second team All American by Collegiate Baseball.

Mazur began to take off after a successful 2021 summer in the Cape Cod League.
