Wolves waive Lawson, sign Matt Ryan to 2-way contract

The Minnesota Timberwolves have waived one of the team’s two-way contract players and signed a replacement.

Thursday, the team announced it signed forward Matt Ryan and waived guard A.J. Lawson.

Ryan was most recently with the Los Angeles Lakers, appearing in 12 games for them this season and averaging 3.9 points and 1.2 rebounds in 10.8 minutes per game.

The 25-year-old played collegiately at Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Chattanooga.

He’ll be the first player in franchise history to wear No. 37.

Lawson was signed last month after playing four games for the Atlanta Hawks’ G-League affiliate. For the Iowa Wolves, he averaged 17 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in four contests.
