Last week’s season-opening win left the Vikings 1-0 on the new season and left head coach Kevin O’Connell covered in bright green slime at a practice this week.

During Thursday’s weekly press conference, Kirk Cousins discussed Monday night’s game in Philadelphia, a notoriously hostile environment for visiting teams. Despite the legend of Lincoln Financial Field, Cousins is 3-2 in five career starts in Philly including the Vikings most recent visit – a 23-21 win in 2018.

The conversation eventually turned to the topic of slime.

Kids TV-network Nickelodeon is sponsoring an “NVP Award” each week of the NFL season. A trophy is sent to the weekly winner at their team facility along with a bucket of Nickelodeon’s trademark green slime.

Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson earned Week One’s “NVP” award, prompting O’Connell to tell his team he’ll “take the slime” anytime a Viking wins the honor.

He followed through on the offer at practice this week.

Cousins said Thursday Vikings players thought they might have a chance to win the NFL’s official Player of the Week honors for offense, defense and special teams. Admitting they went 0-for-3 in those, he said they’re now fully behind the “NVP” Award after Nickelodeon honored Jefferson.

He joked about the potential for a Vikings player to win the NFL’s official Most Valuable Player Award, but they’d say it doesn’t matter unless they also win the Nickelodeon season-long NVP Award and get to appear on the network’s “Teen Choice Awards”.
