Two-time Olympic downhill medalist Traudl Hecher dies at 79

INNSBRUCK, Austria (AP) — Two-time Olympic downhill medalist Traudl Hecher has died, the Austrian ski federation said Thursday. She was 79. Hecher’s daughter Elisabeth Görgl also won Olympic bronze in downhill four decades after her mother. The federation says Hecher died Tuesday in her hometown Schwaz. The cause of her death was not stated. Hecher was just 16 when she took bronze in downhill at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics. The Californian resort is now called Palisades Tahoe. She won another bronze four years later at Innsbruck. Görgl also won two Olympics bronzes, in downhill and giant slalom at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games.
