Stephen Weatherly excited for new opportunity in Carolina, grateful for time with Vikings

The Vikings lost 2016 draft pick, DE Stephen Weatherly, to the Panthers in free agency. He signed a 2-year, $12.5M deal.

Weatherly, 26, chatted about his decision to head to Carolina, his new role, all the guys the Vikings have lost, the new CBA agreement, and more with our Darren Wolfson.

Last year, Weatherly played in every regular-season game and totaled 31 tackles and 3.0 sacks. A year earlier, he posted a career-best 43 tackles to go with 3.0 sacks.

Weatherly has started seven of his 49 career games, totaling 79 tackles, 6.0 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, 53 quarterback hits and two forced fumbles.

Weatherly was a 7th round pick out of Vanderbilt.

The Vikings, Colts, Lions, Jets, Dolphins, and others also had interest in him.
