The hosts of the Breakdown Boys Tip-Off Classic, the No. 3 Hopkins Royals in Class 4A, knocked off the No. 2 team in Class 3A Mankato East 89-75.

Anthony Smith helped lead the Royals with 29 points including a red-hot second-half scoring explosion. Jayden Moore added 15 points to supplement the strong back court duo combining four half of Hopkins’ points.

Lucas Gustafson led the Cougars with 19 points, and Brogan Madson dropped 15 along with him, but it was not enough to bring Mankato East within striking distance in the second half.

Hopkins comfortably took the win at home improving to 2-0 and will host Southwest Christian on Tuesday.
