KSTP Sports has confirmed that former New York Jets tight end Chris Herndon has been traded to the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday. The move comes after the Vikings lost Irv Smith Jr. to injury.

The team later confirmed the Vikings sent a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to New York for Herndon and a 2022 sixth-round draft pick.

Herndon is expected to fill the No. 1 spot on the Vikings tight end depth chart following Smith's injury. There is no timetable yet set for Smith, which will be evaluated after he gets meniscus surgery this week, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said Monday.

Herndon, drafted in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, has played in 33 games so far in his career, starting in 25 of them. He has recorded 71 receptions for 796 yards and 7 touchdowns in his three years.
