Lynx re-sign Banham, Clarendon

The Minnesota Lynx have brought back two familiar faces.

The team on Tuesday announced it re-signed free agent guards Rachel Banham and Layshia Clarendon.

Banham, a Lakeville native, averaged 5 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game over 27 games last year for Minnesota while shooting 37.3% from three. Clarendon joined the Lynx on May 20 last year after being waived by New York and went on to average 10.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game in 21 games with the Lynx.

“Re-signing both Layshia and Rachel was very important for us this offseason,” Lynx Head Coach and General Manager Cheryl Reeve said in a statement. “Layshia played a clear role in our success last season and their command of the game and leadership while on the floor is vital. Rachel’s shooting and passing ability adds an important dimension to the team from the bench. We are happy to have both players back for the 2022 season.”

“Minnesota is my home,” Banham said. “There’s no greater feeling then playing at home in front of your friends, family and the greatest fans in the WNBA. I’m very excited to be back and look forward to what this season holds.”

“Minnesota and this team have been a salve for my soul,” Clarendon added. “There was no question during free agency where I wanted to be. I’m beyond thrilled to be back with the Lynx for my 10th season.”

The Lynx have been active in free agency, also re-signing star Sylvia Fowles and adding five-time All-Star Angel McCoughtry.
