6-foot-8 guard/forward Drew Peterson is transferring to the University of Minnesota after two seasons at Rice.
Thanks to Rice for a great 2 years... with that being said I’m committing to the University of Minnesota pic.twitter.com/o1iqDwCotk— Drew Peterson (@Drewpeterson23) April 28, 2020
Peterson averaged 11.1 points per game and led Rice in rebounding (6.5 rpg) and assists (3.5 apg) last season. He became the first player in Rice history to record 300 points, 200 rebounds and 100 assists in a season.
Peterson took a virtual tour of the University of Minnesota in early April. Right before, he talked to KSTP about his interest in Minnesota, how the coaches compared him to Amir Coffey, how his game fits Richard Pitino's offense, and more.
He has two years of eligibility remaining, with the current rules saying he'd have to sit out a season. But the NCAA this summer is expected to look at the possibility of immediate eligibility for first time transfers.
