A game that was largely won running the ball still had its share of fireworks in the air, as well. Wayzata scored three first-half touchdowns through the air courtesy of Ryan Harvey passing to wide receiver Julian Diedrich, a 5’9, junior speedster who burned Prior Lake from 80, 20 and 13 yards out. The three Harvey-to-Didreich strikes gave the Trojans a 21-7 halftime lead.

But Prior Lake’s Tyler Shaver had three touchdowns of his own – two on the ground, another through the air including a touchdown with 3:37 remaining in the game that cut Wayzata’s lead to 28-27.

Rather than kick the extra point to tie, Lakers head coach Matt Gegenheimer decided to go for the two point conversion, which Prior Lake converted to go up 29-28.

On the final drive of the game Wayzata stayed primarily on the ground. Pounding the ball with runs from Anthony Richmond and Sean Dietrich, the Trojans reached the Prior Lake 14-yard-line with six seconds remaining .

Trojans head coach Lambert Brown decided to try a potential game-winning 31-yard field goal, but the kick sailed wide left to secure the 29-28 win for Prior Lake.
