Earlier this month, the Minnesota Golden Gophers gained a commitment from incoming Park senior Pharrel Payne to their 2022 men's basketball recruiting class.

We caught up with Payne to hear why he wants to be a Gopher, how he's blown up on the AAU circuit this summer, and more.

The 6-foot-9 power forward of Park High School in Cottage Grove is a borderline Top-100 recruit. Payne announced his commitment on Twitter after wrapping up his official visit with Minnesota. He said the toughest school to tell no to was Loyola-Chicago.

Payne joins Park Center's Braeden Carrington as 2022 Gophers commitments. The Gophers could add a third verbal commitment this week when Osseo's Joshua Ola-Joseph announces.
