Leo Gellert of Mankato West wins Section 2AAA boys golf

Mankato West senior Leo Gellert won the Section 2AAA boys golf individual tournament with a cumulative score of 136 (-8), in the two-round tournament at the Ridges at Sand Creek golf course in Jordan.

The leader coming into the final round was Carson Herron of Minnetonka High School with a score of 67 (-5). Gellert shot a first-round 68 (-4) to put himself in a great position for the lead.

KSTP Sports was there for Herron and Gellert’s final nine holes of the tournament.

Herron was +1 on the final round heading into the final nine holes. Herron set himself up with multiple great shots but was not able to hit birdie putts, making him par the first six of the final nine holes. Herron then birdied the 16th hole after he hit the pin off a chip shot out of the sand bunker. Following a bogey on the 17th hole, he was able to end the tournament with a birdie on the 18th hole to give him a 72 (E) on the day. Herron would have a cumulative score of 139 (-5) on the tournament.

Gellert was great with the final nine holes. He finished the last four holes with four consecutive birdies. On the final four holes, he converted four tough birdie putts to push him into the lead. Gellert finished the final round with a 68 (-4) to propel him to victory.
