Lakeville South's running game proved to be the difference as the Cougars held on to beat Shakopee 30-22 on Thursday night in Shakopee. Lakeville South came into the game ranked #1 in Class 6A and they looked it on the team's first two possessions. Cougars tailback Carson Hanson scored twice in the first half to give Lakeville South a 13-0 lead.

Shakopee changed its game plan by starting sophomore Garrison Monroe at quarterback, and the shifty lefty gave the Cougars defense fits. The Sabers' offense confused the Cougars' defense by scoring 14 points before the half to take a 1-point lead heading into the third quarter.
