Hopkins girls hoops wins 60th straight game, advance to state

The Hopkins Royals girls basketball team defeated the Wayzata Trojans 86-76 Thursday night to win Section 6, Class 4A inside a sold out Lindbergh Center to advance to the state tournament and win their 60th straight game.

Minnesota Timberwolves stars Karl Anthony-Town, D’Angelo Russell, Josh Okogie and James Johnson watched as Hopkins All-American Paige Bueckers scored a game high 33 points, including 18 in the first half. Maya Nnaji also chipped 13 points of her own, including a big basket and foul to put Hopkins up six points late in the second half.

Annika Stewart and Mara Braun led Wayzata with 27 points each.

Hopkins 60 straight wins is the third-longest streak in state history in girls’ basketball.
