Class A girls lacrosse tournament: Lakeville South tops Rosemount to advance to State Championship

The Lakeville South Cougars girls lacrosse team defeated the Rosemount Irish 10-9 on Thursday afternoon in the Class A lacrosse semifinals at Stillwater High School.

The Cougars kicked things off when junior Lauren Sheets scored on an assist from junior Brielle Fannin to make it 1-0 with 22:31 left in the first half.

Rosemount tied things up when junior Emma Duchscherer scored an unassisted goal to make it 1-1 with 12 minutes left in the half. Junior Koral Hadac then made it 2-1 Rosemount with a goal with 8:29 left in the half. Then, just under thirty seconds later, junior Ava Whelan assisted junior Sayla Lotysz to make it 3-1 Irish with 8:01 remaining in the first half.

Cougar freshman Tori Tschida answered back just over thirty seconds later with a beautiful goal. 3-2 Irish with just over seven minutes left in the first half. Sheets scored again for the Cougars to make it 3-3 with 6:07 left in the first half. Freshman Katie Grubbs scored on an assist from sophomore Emily Moes. 4-3 Cougars with 4:25 left in the first half. Freshman Christina Swirtz made it 5-3 Cougars with 4:15 left in the half.

Lotysz would answer back for Rosemount. 6-4 Cougars at halftime.

Following a Rosemount penalty, Moes scored an unassisted goal to make it 7-4 Cougars with 22:16 left in the game.

Then, Whelan would score on a rocket shot for Rosemount to cut the lead to 7-5 with 15:47 left in the second half. Lotysz scored again. 7-6 Cougars with15:06 remaining in the game.

Sophomore Allie Mackinac scored directly following a steal. 7-7 with 13:51 left in the game.

Tschida then assisted Sheets on a great pass and shot. 8-7 Cougars with 10:07 remaining.

Lotysz found a cutting Whelan for the game-tying goal for Rosemount. 8-8 with 8:50 left.

Tschida scored on a great shot for Lakeville South. 9-8 Cougars with 3:53 left in the game.

Moes then assisted freshman Sivanna O’Brien to make it 10-8 South with 2:49 left in the game.

The Cougars won 10-9 and will play Prior Lake for the State Championship on Friday, June 18 at 3 pm at Stillwater High School.
