The Washington County Fair kicked off on Wednesday.

After last year’s event was canceled due to the pandemic, people were ready to have some fun when the gates opened for the fair’s 150th year.

However, it was tough finding people to work at the fair, officials said.

"It was tough because there wasn’t a lot of response at first until I actually kind of pleaded, like really pleaded, you know, ‘We need you or we can’t put on a fair,’" Washington County Fair Manager Dorie Ostertag said.

"It’s exciting," Ostertag added. "It’s fun now to see people out and about, together, smiles, eating, talking, just being themselves again, you know? It’s been a long, long time."

The fair runs through Sunday.
