"The safety of our employees providing this essential service is our highest priority," Postmaster William Jones said in a statement. "Our Postal Inspection Service will review the situation of current events daily and determine whether or not our employees are safe to deliver to these communities."

The temporary suspension affects delivery to roughly 58,000 homes and 1,700 PO Box customers, according to the USPS.

Additionally, Seeger Square, West Saint Paul Signal Hills, Minnesota Transfer and Saint Paul Main Office all closed retail services for the rest the day Thursday. Operations at those locations will resume operations as scheduled Friday.

USPS reminded customers some services are available online.
