The University of Minnesota on Thursday announced some changes to campus operations to ensure compliance with the state's new COVID-19 restrictions that go into effect Friday night.

A letter from U of M President Joan Gabel says the university will continue with its research and learning plans but other changes are being made, including:

Changing dining systemwide to grab-and-go beginning Saturday morning. That will remain until the start of the spring semester.
All gyms and recreation centers will close, as will museums and entertainment venues. However, varsity collegiate athletic teams will still be able to train in gyms, and outdoor activities will be provided if possible.
All college athletic events will only be attended by essential personnel.

"I am grateful for your efforts to help minimize the spread of COVID-19, ease the burden on our clinicians and front-line workers, and keep our campus community as healthy as possible in the days and weeks ahead," Gabel states in the letter.

U of M to proceed with distance learning following Thanksgiving break for Twin Cities students, staff

The Twin Cities campus will shift to distance learning, as planned, starting on Nov. 30 through the end of the fall semester.
