Suspected drunk driver injured in northern Minnesota crash

A Lino Lakes man is hospitalized after being involved in a fiery crash in northern Minnesota earlier this month.

The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office says 51-year old David John crashed his pickup truck into a ditch in Lake Hattie Township back on July 1.

John suffered facial injuries that required medical treatment at a Bemidji hospital.

Deputies say he lost control on a curve, then crashed into a ditch, causing his truck to catch fire. A witness told deputies John was speeding and driving erratically in the moments leading up to the crash.

A preliminary breath test by deputies at the scene showed John had a blood alcohol level of .138. Deputies got a warrant to test his blood alcohol level, and those results are pending.
