One man is dead and another is injured after a shooting in St. Paul early Sunday morning.

According to the St. Paul Police Department, just before 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired on the 800 block of Grand Avenue.

Once officers arrived on the scene, they located two victims lying in the streets, both suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Bystanders performed CPR on one of the victims, but he was not breathing and was unconscious, said police.

The second victim injuries were considered to be not life-threatening.

The St. Paul Fire medics quickly responded and pronounced the first victim dead at the scene. The second victim was transported to Regions Hospital, where he is being treated and is expected to survive.

According to police, the shooting happened in the area between Victoria Street and South Avon street, which is currently closed to pedestrians and vehicles as members of the Homicide, Forensic Services and Video Management units work to identify possible witnesses and collect evidence.

"This is the 25th homicide in Saint Paul this year," Steven Linders, Public Information Officer with the department said.

"Our homicide unit with assistance of other units – our gun and gang unit, forensic services – have secured charges in the vast majority of those. They work hard, they’re good at what they do, and they’re not going to stop until they find the person or the people responsible," Linders added.

At this time, the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and no arrests have been made.

Investigators ask anyone with information to call 651-266-5650.

The Ramsey County Medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine death’s exact cause.
