Some camping, heavy equipment restrictions lifting for Superior National Forest

Starting Friday, camping on Superior National Forest lands outside of developed campgrounds will again be open to visitors.

Officials said the forest is also lifting heavy equipment restrictions, allowing certain land management activities to resume again.

While the restrictions are being lifted, contractors and the public will still have to be diligent due to ongoing drought conditions and fire risks.

The news comes a day after forest officials announced the reopening of portions of the BWCA starting on Saturday.

Recent rains and fall temperatures have helped moderate active fires, officials say.
