Sheriff’s office: Death of man in state wildlife management area being investigated

The death of a man who was found in the Carlos Avery State Wildlife Management Area is being investigated by the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a release from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, deputies dispatched to the Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area in Columbus at 9:50 a.m. on Saturday on the report of a man found unresponsive.

When deputies arrived, the 20-year-old victim, identified as Mort Siwe of St. Paul, was determined to be dead with visible external injuries.

A postmortem examination was done by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, who determined the injuries were indicative of a physical assault.

No arrests have been made in this incident.
