Report: 14 deaths associated with COVID-19 reported at northern Wisconsin care facility

A northern Wisconsin care facility is facing a COVID-19 outbreak, according to a report Thursday.

Hubbard Broadcasting’s WDIO-TV reports there have been 14 deaths associated with COVID-19 reported at the Superior Rehabilitation Center in Superior.

Thursday, Douglas County Health Officer Kathy Ronchi told WDIO-TV the information was based on an updated review of death certificates.

Marc Halpert—the operating officer of Superior Rehabilitation’s parent company, Monarch Healthcare Management—told WDIO there have been 88 COVID-19 cases among residents at the Superior Rehabilitation Center; 61 have recovered.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm said MDH is currently working with dozens of care facilities throughout the state for staffing support needs. National Guard and federal teams have also been called upon to assist. Malcolm called it an "ongoing challenge" and another need to reduce community spread.
